Case Study: Social Paths
Immaterial Persistence
Social systems are paths of communication. They have no physical substance (you cannot touch "the economy"), but they exert massive causal pressure. They are often more robust than stone.
Language
Language is the oldest and most powerful human path. It has maximum connectivity (A₂=10): All thinking must pass through it. Its persistence is enormous (Indo-European has survived for millennia), but it dies immediately if not spoken (no "storage" outside of active use).
Wikipedia
A modern wonder of emergence. Wikipedia demonstrates that open systems (high A₂) can be extremely stable (high P) as long as sufficient agents maintain the path. It refutes the assumption that quality necessarily requires central control (autocracy).
